It’s an honor to connect with you! I am Shannon, I like to think of myself as a Yoga Ecologist. Ecology is the study of interactions and relations between organisms and their environment. I have a BA in Biology from University California Berkeley. Over the last 10+ years I have worked for the UC system as a field ecologist, studying mainly the impact of fungal pathogens in oak forests.
I am a natural historian/outdoor lover who has always wanted to make a contribution to living on a healthier planet. While it is my passion to dork out on all things biological, I am also a middle eastern dancer who loves to cook and spend time with my husband playing drums, backpacking and traveling the world.
Yoga is the glue that has kept all these parts of myself together!
I can relate to you if you are in a lot of pain and/or way too stressed out. I found yoga at a time my neck was always going out on me, and many hours either in front of the computer or on long drives to field sites led to unimaginable back pain, to the point where I didn’t even want to move anymore. Nothing felt good.
I believe that self-awareness has an ecological benefit.
As I have become more self-aware and use yoga to soften and even eliminate physical pain, I notice I can breathe better, move through challenges more easily, and contribute more of myself to the people and things that I love.
This endeavor is an on-going process that I am committed to. I have been teaching since 2008 and am most passionate about using biomechanical principles of alignment in yoga for therapeutic benefits. The alignment principles nurture my inner-scientist and have empowered me with tools to heal a lot of my physical pain.
The classes and workshops I offer, the adventurous retreats I take you on, and the one-on-one programs you enroll in with me are designed to serve my mission: to provide you with tools that empower you to enhance your quality of life.
When that happens, you relax into your own skin and EVERYBODY benefits!
This is Yoga Ecology.
